Information Overload

It absolutely amazes me how much information there is out there. As the Internet continues to grow and evolve, more and more information (good and bad) is as close as the nearest Internet connection. I wonder where this will lead us. Last night we studied the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11. There is this really odd statement in the text that my high school calculus teacher first pointed out to me, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them."

Computers continue to shrink the gap between languages. I don't know how far I would want to push this text in today's world - I'm not sure there is a whole lot of relevance in this story as a whole for today . . . but to point out where Babel was, and where we are today is interesting nonetheless.

More than anything we have a great opporutunity to share the Gospel of Jesus with people we may never see or meet face to face. But therein is the power of the message. Getting the message out there is at the heart of the commission.

However, there is also a greater than ever chance that the message could become polluted and mutated into something it was not meant to be. Bringing a sense of clarity will be more and more important as we press forward. It also means we must be more and more quick to listen and slow to speak. There are things we are wrong about, and we have a great chance to know that.
